Well the Republican National Committee has been sent my very important, prepared just for me, survey (refer to this posting). I have also sent them my most generous donation of $0.02.
So today I received a letter from the Republican National Committee asking me to fill out the 2007 Republican Party Census Document and send it in to help the GOP create a blueprint for the future of the Republican Party.
You may be wondering why I would receive such a piece of mail. Frankly, I am a registered Republican. Not because I like Republicans. I don't like Democrats either. I am actually pretty Libertarian when it come to politics, but I agree with some issues on the "Left" and some on the "Right". I am registered as a Republican so I can vote in the primary elections, which if you are registered as anything other than DEM or REP you are barred from voting in. I figure that I can vote for the lesser of the evils in the primaries to help keep the real nutters off the general election ballots.
But I digress...
So I have been asked to fill out the GOP census document, which was (according to the letter) prepared especially for me, as a representative of all Republicans in my voting district. Heh... if they only knew what was about to befall them with this survey.
I do, however, have a sneaking suspicion that when my very important, prepared just for me survey is returned back to the RNC with less than Republican answers, that it it going to be disregarded and filed directly into the "Round File".
Here is a scan of the survey document that I received (I folded the top when I scanned it to hide my personal information that is shown on the top of the document)
The Census survey includes some choice, political "hot-button issue" questions including the USA Patriot Act, air strikes to countries that harbor terrorists, racial profiling, tax cuts, immigration, gay marriage, abortion, federal funding for religious organizations, Israel, economic sanctions and so forth.
I did find humor in the section titled "Republican Party" on page 2 of this survey.
Question 1 asks if I "support the election of Republican candidates across the country and the rebuilding of our majorities over the next ten years?"
Well, gee, ya know I don't participate in group think and I definitely am not one of those people that always votes party line. I cannot guess my voting behavior for the next decade. I always vote for the candidate I think is best, REGARDLESS of what party they represent.
Question 2 asks if I have voted in 2002, 2004, and 2006.
At least I can answer that one to their satisfaction. Yes on all three.
Question 3 is pretty much the RNC pandering for money to make a most generous contribution. My options here include:
-Yes, I support the RNC and am enclosing my most generous donation of:
"$500 $250 $100 $50 $35 $25 Other $_____"
-Yes, I support the RNC, but am unable to make a contribution at this time. However, I have enclosed $11 to cover the cost of tabulating my survey
-No, I favor the electing of liberal Democrats over the next ten years.
Absolutely hilarious... It's pure comedy gold... but honestly, it is extremely tragic that this country has become so divided by party lines and religious bullshit that we can't just agree to disagree on certain topics and learn to respect each others beliefs and choices.
I am going to fill the survey out and return it. I will be making a contribution to be filed under "Other" in the amount of $0.02. I just haven't decided if I am going to send them a check for my $0.02 or if I should just tape two pennies to the survey.
